Khattar govt announces ₹6,000 remuneration for farmers, workers
RAINING SOPS The fresh remuneration will be in addition to the sum of ₹6,000 announced by the central government for farmers
CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said the state government would provide an annual remuneration of ₹6,000 to farmers having five acres or less and workers having a monthly income of ₹15,000 or less. The move, aimed at wooing voters ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly polls, comes a day after the finance minister provided an outlay of ₹1,500 crore in the budget estimates for providing financial and social security cover to families of farmers and workers in the unorganised sector.
Under the new scheme, which has been named “Mukhyamantri Parivar Samman Nidhi”, each beneficiary family will be eligible for a financial assistance of ₹6,000 every year and each family has to nominate a member of their family to avail the benefit.
The fresh remuneration will be in addition to the sum of ₹6,000 announced by the central government for farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
The CM said there will two categories in the scheme. The first category will be for beneficiaries in the 18 to 40 age group while the second will be for the 40 to 60 age group.
For the first category, there will be four options to avail the financial assistance. Under the first option, the amount will be deposited in the bank account of the head of the family in three equal instalments of ₹2,000. Under the second option, the family has to nominate a member of the family to avail the benefit and he will get ₹36,000 after

completion of five years. Under the third option, the nominated beneficiary will get a pension of ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 per month after attaining the age of 60 years, which would depend upon the age of the beneficiary at start of the scheme.
Khattar said that those eligible for the ₹6,000 remuneration announced by the state government but not keen to take it can opt for insurance schemes, the premium for which will be paid from this amount.
Besides this, if the nominated beneficiary is also covered under Pradhanmantri Shram-yogi Maandhan, then after attaining the age of 60, the beneficiary would be eligible for a pension of ₹3,000 per month, the premium of which would be paid by the government.
Congress legislature party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry said that since farmers were made to pay ₹6,000 as premium of the Kisan Fasal Bima scheme, the ₹6,000 remuneration was inconsequential.
“It would be like giving money from the right hand and taking it back with the left hand. At least, the government should double the remuneration,” she said.
