Army bravehearts honoured in Amritsar
AMRITSAR : Forty nine bravehearts of the army, one posthumously, were felicitated with gallantry and distinguished service awards during the Western Command Investiture Ceremony, for their acts of bravery, exceptional devotion to duty and distinguished service to the nation on Wednesday .
The ceremony was organised at Hayde auditorium in the city. The Indian Army officers were honoured by the Lieutenant General Surinder Singh, General officer commanding-inchief, Western Command.
On the occasion, the stories of indomitable courage of these soldiers, in the face of adversities, charged the atmosphere.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Surinder Singh said, “A total of one Yudh Seva Medal (YSM), two Bar to Sena Medal (gallantry), 29 Sena Medal (gallantry), one Bar to Sena Medal (Distinguished), four Sena Medal (Distinguished), and 12 Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) were awarded during the ceremony. Besides this, unit citation of 17 units of the Western Command was bestowed for their meritorious and outstanding performance.”
The army commander congratulated all the awardees and recipients of unit citations and exhorted all ranks to emulate their example and achieve standards in line with the traditions and glory of the Indian Army.
He said, “Indian Army is confident and is well equipped to counter the emerging security challenges. The formations and units of Western Command had shown excellent performance in all spheres of military activities during the preceding year. It is great.”
