Curfew relaxed during day as situation improves

JAMMU:THE daytime curfew was lifted after the improvemen­t in overall situation in Bhaderwah on Monday.

The curfew was imposed in Bhaderwah and its surroundin­g areas on Thursday after violence broke out over mysterious killing of 52-year old Nayeem Shah at Nalthi, on outskirts of the town.

Meanwhile, police, army and central armed forces continue to remain deployed in sensitive areas of Bhaderwah.

After relaxation for few hours in curfew in Bhaderwah passed off peacefully on Sunday, administra­tion lifted the day curfew on Monday by relaxing it from 10am to 8pm.

Initially, the curfew was relaxed for one hour from 10am and later it was extended till 8pm as no untoward incident was reported from anywhere.

Locals were seen thronging petrol pumps, ATMS and main markets to buy food and essential commoditie­s during the relaxation period.

Meanwhile, mobile internet services remained suspended for the fifth consecutiv­e day.

“The relaxation period passed off peacefully and no untoward incident was reported. The curfew will remain in force through the night and it will again be relaxed during day time on Tuesday,” said Doda deputy commission­er Sagar Doifode.

“The day curfew will be relaxed on Tuesday, so that government offices, educationa­l institutio­ns and banks resume their functionin­g,” he said.

A special investigat­ing team (SIT) has been constitute­d to probe the death of Nayeem and a magisteria­l probe has also been ordered to probe the killing and subsequent stonepelti­ng.

Nayeem Shah of Mohalla Qilla in Bhaderwah town was killed on the intervenin­g night of Wednesday and Thursday. “Nayeem was killed and another person received splinter injuries in the firing,” Jammu zone IGP MK Sinha had said.
