90% work on 4-lane highway completed: NHAI chairman

A four-lane highway, a bridge and a passenger terminal are the major parts of the Kartarpur corridor. Pending work on the highway is expected to be complete in 15 days. Other pending works include painting, finishing, building footpaths, plantation, and building approaches to the highway from Dera Baba Nanak and other areas. Work on passenger terminal is continuing round the clock, and the first of the two phases, will be completed by October-end.

It has two phases and is being built at a cost of ₹190 crore over 2,160 metre.

The terminal building will accommodat­e 5,000 passengers a day and will be part of the Integrated Check Post (ICP).

TENT CITY BEING SET UP ON 65 ACRES AT DERA BABA NANAK

To mark the 550th anniversar­y celebratio­ns, the state government is setting up a tent city at Dera Baba Nanak to accommodat­e the large number of devotees coming to be part of the celebratio­ns.

Gurdaspur deputy commission­er Vipul Ujwal, who reviewed the arrangemen­ts on Saturday, said celebratio­ns will start on November 1 and will continue till November 15.

“For convenienc­e of the sangat (devotees), the area around Dera Baba Nanak town has been divided into eight sectors. Our staff from the department­s of health, water supply, sanitation, local government, police and fire control will be deployed in each of these sectors,” he said, adding ambulances and helpdesks would be stationed at all important points to ensure locals were not inconvenie­nced at any cost.

“Till October 31, all arrangemen­ts will be made,” he claimed. SULTANPUR LODHI: Gurdwara Ber Sahib will be adorned with over 700 quintal of flowers imported from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Kenya and some other countries during the 550th birth anniversar­y celebratio­ns of Guru Nanak that will be held between November 1 and 12 at Sultanpur Lodhi.

Besides, flowers from Kolkata, Bengaluru and Himachal Pradesh will be also brought for decoration of walls of sanctum santorum, newly constructe­d sarshani deorhi, langar hall and main stage for the function, said SGPC chief secretary Roop Singh.

He said that a Mumbai-based and Ludhiana-based sangat and SGPC are spending money on flowers for decoration of the shrine and other important places. “Seasonal flowers from some foreign countries will also be used for decoration,” he said.
