42 FARMERS BOOKED IN MOGA, 36 FINED

Moga:police on Friday booked 42 farmers in Moga district for indulging in stubble burning.

A total of 13 first informatio­n reports (FIRS) were registered at six police stations under Section 188 (disobedien­ce to order duly promulgate­d by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The district administra­tion has also started the process to mark ‘red entry’ in the land record of the farmers booked by the police for stubble burning so that violators don’t get the benefit of any government schemes and subsidies.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and agricultur­e department have issued challans to 36 more farmers who indulged in stubble burning in the district. The PPCB has fined a total of 70 farmers till Friday.

Deputy commission­er Sandeep Hans said the district administra­tion has constitute­d as many as 20 teams to keep a check on stubble burning.

26 FINED IN FATEHGARH SAHIB

Meanwhile, 26 farmers were fined ₹87,500 for stubble burning in Fatehgarh Sahib, according to Raji P Srivastava, principal secretary, social security and woman and child developmen­t, who has been made in-charge of the district to curb incidents of farm fires.

FARMERS GHERAO GOVT OFFICIALS ISSUING CHALLANS IN SANGRUR

SANGRUR: Farmers gheraoed a team of government officials that had gone to issue challans for stubble burning at Satoj village in the district on Friday.

The team comprised Bahadar Singh, SDO, PSPCL, Cheema, and two patwaris — Gurdasrsha­n Singh and Sukhwinder Singh. The officials said they had received informatio­n that farmers in the village were burning stubble and they went there to issue challans to them.

The protesting farmers were led by Bhartiya Kisan Union Ekta (Ugrahan).

Meanwhile, a police team led by Surjan Singh, SHO, Dharmgarh, reached the spot and pacified the farmers. The officials then left the village.
