Kumar Swami apologises for disrespecting Gurbani
AMRITSAR : Brahmrishi Kumar Swami on Sunday apologised to Sikh community for disrespecting Gurbani by sending an apology letter through his representatives to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
The godman had compared himself with Gurbani in an advertisement published in a vernacular Punjabi newspaper. After the publication of the advertisement, SGPC on Saturday had lodged a police complaint against Kumar Swami.
In a press release, SGPC said, “The representatives of Kumar Swami have met SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal and handed him over an apology letter. Those who met Longowal were general secretary of Laxami Narayan Dham, Delhi, Sushil Verma, BJP leader Dr Baldev Raj Chawla, Dham’s Amritsar based organisers Bipin Anand and Robin Talwar.”
Longowal said the representatives of Kumar Swami have assured that such mistake will not occur in future.
During a meeting of Dharam Parchar Committee at Sri Guru Ram Das Dental College in Amritsar, Longowal had said on Saturday a vernacular Punjabi newspaper had published an advertisement of Kumar Swami which has hurt the sentiments of Sikh sangat and necessary action will be taken against him.
“Kumar Swami had compared himself with Gurbani and ek Onkar. He had also desecrated Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh holy book) and Bani of Guru Gobind Singh (tenth Sikh master),” Longowal had said.
He had said Swami had also drawn a parallel between Guru Gobind Singh and Hindu deities.
