4 of Sunam family killed as SUV rams into truck
SANGRUR: Four members of a family were killed when their sports utility vehicle rammed into a Canter Tempo parked on the road connecting Sunam and Bhawanigarh in Sangrur district around Monday midnight.
Police said on Tuesday that the family was returning to Sunam in a Renault Duster after attending a wedding in Bhawanigarh when their vehicle hit the Tempo. The deceased were identified as Harish Kumar, 55, his wife Meena Rani, 52, their son Rahul Kumar, 21, and granddaughter Manya, 2.
As per the first information report, Harish and Rahul died on the spot, while injured Meena and Manya were rushed to Bhawanigarh civil hospital. “The doctors declared Meena brought dead and referred Manya to Patiala. From Patiala, she was referred to PGIMER Chandigarh but she succumbed to her injuries on the way.
Bhawanigarh SHO inspector Gurinder Singh said the Canter had broken down and was being repaired on the road.
“The bodies have been handed over to the family after the postmortem. However, the police have booked unidentified truck driver (PB 03AA 3217) and he will be nabbed soon,” said the SHO.
On the complaint of Harish’s nephew Amit Adlakha, the driver was booked under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 427 (mischief) of the IPC at Bhawanigarh police station.
