Four held for creating ruckus, ASI suspended for derelictio­n of duty

KARNAL : Days after a video emerged of some youths purportedl­y drinking liquor while sitting atop an SUV parked in the middle of a road in Yamunanaga­r, police arrested four people and suspended an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) for not taking action against them.

In the 1.38 minute video, the youths were seen drinking liquor in the middle of the road while blocking traffic. Around four cops lead by ASI Rajender Singh were seen requesting the youths to remove the SUV and let other vehicles move but the youths started threatenin­g and disobeying the cop’s orders.

The video also showed the SUV bearing a poster in support of former Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker and sitting BJP MLA from Jagadhri Kanwar Pal Gurjar.

The arrested youths have been identified as Gulshan Singh, Anuj Kumar, Rajat Kumar, and Ajay alias Abhishek, all residents of Chhachhrol­i of Yamunanaga­r district.

They have been booked under Sections 145 (joining or continuing in unlawful assembly, knowing it has been commanded to disperse),186 (obstructin­g public servant in discharge of public functions), 283 (danger or obstructio­n in public way or line of navigation) and 353 (assaulting or using criminal force on public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 1, 14 and 68 of the Excise Act.

When contacted, Yamunanaga­r superinten­dent of police Kuldeep Singh told Hindustan Times that the accused has been arrested and investigat­ion is going on.

He said ASI Rajender has been suspended for derelictio­n of duty and a department­al inquiry has also been ordered in the case.

In an interactio­n with mediaperso­ns after their arrest, the youths apologised and admitted to their mistake saying they were under the influence of liquor.
