Removing these hoardings is unfortunate. We will talk to mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu in this regard. We are planning to install more hoardings in Amritsar and Dera Baba Nanak. HARPAL SINGH VERKA, local Congress leader

AMRITSAR: A day after hoardings featuring Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu regarding Kartarpur Corridor were put up by Congress leader supporters in the city, Sidhu’s aide Harpal Singh Verka on Wednesday said that they are planning to install more hoardings in Amritsar and Dera Baba Nanak.

The hoardings were installed by local Congress leader Verka and others hailing Sidhu and Pakistan Prime Minister for opening of the corridor. The hoardings were put up describing them (Sidhu and Imran Khan) as “real heroes” for playing a crucial role in linking the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan with the Indian territory. The municipal corporation had removed the hoardings within hours of their appearance terming them as “illegal”.

Verka on Wednesday said, he along with few other councilllors from Amritsar (east) assembly constituency, represented by Sidhu, met the Congress leader and apprised him about his plan.

“Removing these hoardings is unfortunate. We will talk to mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu in this regard. We will conduct a meeting soon to chalk out next plan of action. We are planning to install more hoardings in the city and Dera Baba Nanak. We have already got 25-30 hoardings prepared,” he said.

He said, “Before installing hoardings, I had sent its image to Sidhu Sahib and he had thanked us for it. I have also informed him about hoardings being pulled down.”

“I have received 50,000 messages from the people lauding installation of the hoardings and opposing their removal. The act of pulling down hoardings shows frustration of the Sidhu’s rivals,” he added.

IT IS SENTIMENTS OF SIDHU’S SUPPORTERS: NAVJOT KAUR

Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday said putting up of hoardings is sentiments of the persons who installed them.

Navjot Kaur said, “I saw these hoardings on social media. It is sentiments of those who installed them. How can I stop anyone from expressing their sentiments? It should not be considered wrong,” She said while inaugurating a restaurant of a Sidhu’s supporter in Sultanwind area of the city.

She also endorsed the sentiments expressed by her husband in the letter written to the Centre on Wednesday seeking permission for visiting Pakistan to attend opening ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor.
