5 of family killed in Kulgam road mishap

SRINAGAR:FIVE members of a family were killed and two injured when their car collided head on with a truck in J&K’S Kulgam district on Wednesday, police said.

The collision between the two vehicles, which were coming from opposite directions, took place at Khudwani bypass in Kulgam in the wee hours, a police official said, adding that the family of seven, hailing from Kargil, was on its way to Jammu.

Five members of the family -Mohammad Abdullah, his daughters Mehsoora and Amina, Mohammad Hussain and Kaneeza -- died on the spot.

Two other members of the family -- Ghulam Hassan and Nargis -- were seriously injured in the collision. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

RAMBAN ROAD TRAGEDY KILLS FIVE

Five people were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and fell into a gorge in Ramban district on Jammu-srinagar national highway late Tuesday.

The incident took place around 7pm when a Maruti swift, on its way to Srinagar, skidded off the road near Devsole

in Panthial area of the district. All passengers on board were killed on the spot, a police officer said.

The deceased were Vikram Singh and Sikandar Singh of Kathua district, Sushil Kumar of Jammu, Avtar Singh of Samba district and Swaran Singh of Punjab’s Amritsar. Police have registered a case.

3 KILLED, 2 INJURED AFTER VEHICLE FALLS INTO GORGE IN SHIMLA

SHIMLA:THREE people were killed and two sustained injuries in a road accident in Chopal sub-division of Himachal’s Shimla district on Wednesday. The accident took place around 9.30am on the Sarahan-dabas road near Bholanu in Chopal when the driver lost control of the vehicle (HP 85 0418) and the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a 500m gorge.

The deceased were identified as Jaget Singh, 50, Balbir, 42 and Jagat Singh, 45, all residents of Shillai Tehsil, Sirmaur.the injured, Sunil, 30 and Atter Singh, 40, residents of Shillai Tehsil, are undergoing treatment at Chopal civil hospital. They were on their way to Shillai from Chopal.

DSP Pramod Shukla confirmed the incident and said the case is being investigat­ed.
