CAA: ALL SHOULD BE EQUAL
Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement that 566 Muslims have got Indian citizenship during the past six years and the list includes renowned Pakistani singer Adnan Sami and Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen does not mean much. What about those who are not as well-known? What about those who are uneducated, unaware, and do not possess the required documents? Does the ruling government’s new law provide citizenship to such strata of population as well? This is something that deserves pondering.
Sanjot Kaur, Ludhiana the order of the day, a special session of Parliament needs to be called to address the more important, but non-controversial issues like inflation, unemployment, healthcare, the well-being of our farmers and spurring the industry. An idea that must also be given serious thought is simultaneous elections to all state assemblies and Parliament once every five years to save on resources and reduce the burden on our security forces.
HK Aggarwal, Mohali implement the CAA after the Parliament has passed it. States may oppose it, pass a resolution in their legislative assemblies and also ask the Centre to take it back, but they cannot refuse to implement it. Doing so can cause difficulties. Citizenship is not only a matter of rights, it is also related to duties of citizens towards society.

Afghanistan, but unfortunately our own people are still living as refugees. What a pity? The Union government should rehabilitate Kashmiri Pandits to the same places from where they were uprooted.
