Visit over, central medical team to submit report to DGHS

JAMMU: Upon completion of their investigat­ions, a six-member high level medical team of experts from the health ministry on Wednesday concluded their three-day visit to the Ramnagar tehsil in Udhampur where 10 children have died due to unknown disease in the past fortnight.

The team on the last day visited the district hospital Udhampur and interacted with hospital staff and also examined the record of the ill children who referred from Ramnagar hospital.

During their stay the team visited Martha village where maximum number of cases were reported in early December, Ramnagar hospital, primary health centres in the adjoining villages and homes of the children who had fallen ill .

The team has also collected the samples of contacts and siblings of the infected children.

Before concluding their visit, the team met with two ill children getting treatment in Sri Maharaja Gulab SINGH(SMGS) hospital in Jammu. The team interacted with the family members and collected the blood samples of both the children.

The visiting team comprised of Dr Sumit Mehndiratt­a, specialist (paediatric­s) Safdarjung Hospital, while both Dr Mahesh Waghmare, deputy director (microbiolo­gy) and Dr Suneet Kaur, assistant director( epidemiolo­gy) are from National Centre for Disease Control, Delhi and Dr Shilpa Tomar, microbiolo­gist and Dr Avinash Deoshatwar, epidemiolo­gistboth of whom are from NIVPUNE.

In few days, the team will submit a report to directorat­e general of Health Services (Dghs)health and Family Welfare minister.

Meanwhile, the male child, who was admitted in SMGS hospital from Ramnagar on Tuesday continues to remain critical.
