KANGAR FLAYS SUKHBIR OVER BEHBAL KALAN REMARK

- HT Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Revenue minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar on Friday said staring the end of his political career in the face, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal has lost his mental balance and was making unfounded and illogical statements on a religious issue about which he did nothing when in power.

Kangar said he was saddened by the demise of Surjit Singh, a key witness in the 2015 Behbal Kalan firing. “But Sukhbir made a desperate attempt to take political mileage of Surjit’s natural death and started levelling allegations that I put pressure on the deceased,” said Kangar, clarifying that he never met any member of Surjit’s family.

Sukhbir on Friday visited Surjit’s house and has demanded registration of case against Kangar and local Congress MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon after Surjit’s family alleged that he was being pressured by Kangar and Dhillon to withdraw a statement against police officers involved in the Behbal Kalan firing.

Kangar said Surjit’s family had an issue with another village resident Majinder Singh and in October last year, the PSPCL conducted a raid in the village to check electricity theft during which Surjit’s family was fined.

Surjit’s family had this feeling that Manjinder got the raid conducted on their house, said Kangar, adding that he didn’t knew Manjinder.

Faridkot MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon said that Sukhbir is in a habit of telling lies.
