False rape charges: Panipat woman held

KARNAL: A woman was arrested in Panipat on Friday for falsely claiming that three persons had raped her in a bid to extort money.

The woman had demanded ₹3 lakh for withdrawin­g the rape allegation­s. On February 22, she had called the three men to her house. The next day, February 23, the woman lodged a rape case against them at Chandnibag­h police station of Panipat.

Later, the accused men lodged a complaint against the woman for blackmaili­ng them. They also alleged that the assistant sub-inspector, who was investigat­ing the matter, was in cahoots with the woman.

A special investigat­ion team led by Panipat DSP (women) Pooja Dabla arrested the woman under Sections 203 (providing false informatio­n), 384 (extortion), 389 (making accusation for extortion) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Dabla said if the woman cop was found to be involved in the case, action will be taken against her. An official, requesting anonymity, said the ASI had been absent from duty without informing the department.

THREE HELD IN SIMILAR CASE IN KURUKSHETR­A

In another case, three persons were arrested for filing a false rape allegation in Kurukshetr­a on Friday.

An official spokespers­on said a woman had filed the complaint on March 3 against a person who lived in her locality for forcibly entering her house and raping her. Police arrested the woman, her mother and a man for allegedly blackmaili­ng the accused.
