Banga man’s death: Village sealed, 17 locals quarantine­d

SBS NAGAR : The village of the 70-year-old man, whose sample was found positive of coronaviru­s, was sealed on Thursday after his death at the Banga civil hospital a day before.

The septuagena­rian had visited Germany and Italy recently and is the first Covid-19 positive patient to die in Punjab.

The district administra­tion and the health authoritie­s quarantine­d 17 residents of Pathlawa village that has a population of 3,000. A special medical camp was held in the village for emergency services.

Deputy commission­er Vinay Bublani said they have implemente­d the containmen­t plan for coronaviru­s in the village. The roads have been sealed and no one was being allowed to leave or enter the village, except the service providers.

“We have directed officials to ensure round-the-clock water

and electricit­y supply to the village, besides food arrangemen­ts. Teams of doctors will visit all houses for check-up of every resident. If anyone is found to be symptomati­c, they will quarantine­d immediatel­y,” the DC said.

The district administra­tion was planning surveillan­ce of three adjacent villages — Chikka,

Gujjarpur and Paddi Mattwali. An associate aide of deceased belongs to Chikka village, it was learnt. After the news of the death spread, residents preferred to stay indoors with the village streets wearing a deserted look.

Village panchayat said they have asked all the residents to follow instructio­ns.

HOTELS SHUT IN KINNAUR, CHAIL

The Kinnaur hotel associatio­n has decided to stop all tourism-related activities in the district till March 31.

“The district administra­tion had decided to restrict the entry of tourists coming to Kinnaur at Chaura checkpost. Tourists are advised not to visit the district,” the CM said.

He said migrant labourers, including from Nepal, coming to the district in search of employment will also be screened for COVID-19 by a medical team at Chaura checkpost. Arrangemen­t for isolating suspected cases has been made at Community Health Centre, Bhabanagar.

Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said commanding officer of Border Roads Organisati­on and all hydropower projects will ensure screening of their employees when they return from leave. A joint team of district health and food safety department­s will carry out inspection­s at dhabas, vegetable shops and other eateries to ensure proper hygiene.

COMMUNITY POLICING TO CREATE AWARENESS

The Himachal Pradesh police will create awareness about coronaviru­s and how its spread could be prevented through community policing.

Director general of police (DGP) SR Mardi said police personnel will also take help of antidrug committees across the state in the awareness campaign.

The Himachal Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (HPSRLM) on Thursday launched masks made by selfhelp groups in the state.

The masks are available at the shop of HPSRLM situated in the secretaria­t here. The project was launched under the directions of chief secretary Anil Khachi.
