Haryana traces 524 attendees
Of these, 89 are foreigners; Nuh has maximum 322, followed by 71 in Faridabad
CHANDIGARH : At least 524 people, who earlier this month attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area, which has emerged as India’s Covid-19 hostspot, were traced in Haryana, health and family welfare minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said.
The health department teams are on job after police traced the congregation attendees, including 89 foreign nationals, to various districts such as Gurgaon and Ambala, said Vij, who also holds the home portfolio.
Of the 524 persons, Nuh has the maximum number at 322, followed by 71 in Faridabad, 62 in Panipat, 36 in Ambala and 12 in Palwal district, a senior official said. “After attending the congregation, these attendees were assigned duties and sent to different places across India to preach. They stay in mosques, visit houses and hold meetings,” the minister said.
“The health teams are deciding as who will be quarantined or isolated. In the Ambala Cantonment, samples of four who are being treated as symptomatic, have been sent for testing while 40 others in the city were quarantined. Most of these people are from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Among foreigners, some are from Nepal. Medical examination of all those traced in Haryana will be conducted,” he added.
“Those who show symptoms will be admitted to hospitals, kept in isolation wards and their samples will be tested. All those who could have come into contact with them will be quarantined,” the minister said.
About reports that the group could have entered Haryana after the lockdown was imposed, Vij said, “Then action will be taken according to law.”
In Kurukshetra district, 30 persons with travel history to Nizamuddin and Hyderabad were identified and were quarantined at Babain, the police said.
