Haryana women panel member seeks status report in 2 gangrape cases

- HT Correspondent

KARNAL: Haryana state women commission member Namrata Gaur on Wednesday raised questions over the police investigation in two cases of gangrape registered in Karnal earlier this month and sought a status report.

Gaur, who reached Karnal on Thursday, said the police have failed to arrest the accused in both the cases several days after the registration of FIR.

On July 6, a private school staffer had filed a complaint of gangrape against her employer, a senior government official and school principal.

In another case, a woman from Sonepat had on July 13 accused nine people of gangrape at gunpoint in a rice mill in Taraori town.

“Investigation does take time, but the police should take action against the accused as soon as possible so that nobody can dare to commit such a crime in the future,” she said, adding that had the police taken a strict action in the first case, the second case would have been avoided.

Karnal SP said that detailed investigation was going on in both the cases and it may take a few more days to take further action.
