MOHALI : The district sessions court, Mohali, on Friday allowed the application of the complainant in the 1991 Balwant Singh Multani disappearance case to transfer the case from the court of additional district and sessions judge Monika Goyal to the court of ADJ Rajnish Garg.

Former Punjab director general of police Sumedh Singh Saini and others were booked on May 6 this year for the disappearance of Multani, a Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Corporation employee, in 1991.

The district and session judge, Rajinder Singh Rai, has now asked the prosecution and defence to appear before the ADJ

Rajnish Garg’s court on July 30, which is the next date for hearing.the application for transfer of the case was filed after ADJ Monika Goyal’s court allowed interim bail to Saini in anticipation of the SIT adding Section 302 (murder) of the IPC .

The complainant, Palwinder Singh Multani, sought the transfer of case hearing of two co-accused, former UT cops Jagir Singh and Anokh Singh, from the court of Monika Goyal.

In the previous hearing, Sartej Singh Narula, special public prosecutor, supported by public prosecutor Sanjiv Batra took the plea that recently the court had transferred the case hearing against Saini from Monika Goyal’s court to the court of Rajnish Garg after which the latter’s court on July 10 dismissed the interim bail granted to Saini.

The state also sought cancellation of anticipatory bails granted to former UT cops.

Multani was allegedly picked up by two officers in 1991 after a terrorist attack on Saini, the then Chandigarh SSP, in which four policemen in his security posse were killed. The police later claimed that Multani had escaped from the custody of the Qadian police.

EX-PUNJAB DGP SUMEDH SINGH SAINI, OTHERS WERE BOOKED FOR DISAPPEARANCE OF MULTANI ON MAY 6
