Why is Solan No. 1 in Covid case load in Himachal Pradesh

SHIMLA/DHARAMSHAL­A:: Solan accounts for around a quarter of Himachal’s Covid-19 caseload and is the worst hit district in the state. Officials say this is because of the presence of a large number of industrial workers who returned to the district from different parts of the country to earn a livelihood.

As per records, Solan alone carries 24% of the caseload in the state. The district had recorded the steepest single-day spike among all 12 districts in the state with 73 new cases on Wednesday. Of these, 39 cases were reported from the Baddi-barotiwala-nalagarh (BBN) industrial belt. Most of them are industrial workers besides 12 are police personnel. On Thursday too, the maximum cases were from BBN. Earlier, Solan had recorded 69 cases in a day on July 14. With this, the district’s coronaviru­s tally so far has reached 1,097.

Himachal Pradesh’s Covid-19 tally rose to 4,538 with 127 more people testing positive for the disease since Wednesday night, health officials said on Thursday.

TWO FATALITIES, DEATH TOLL 21

Two more people succumbed to the virus on Thursday, taking the death toll to 21. A 48-year-old man succumbed to the contagion in Dharamshal­a. The second fatality was reported in Nalagarh of

Solan, where a 51-year-old man succumbed to the virus. The deceased was suffering from renal failure.

STATE POWER MINISTER RECOVERS

Himachal Pradesh power minister Sukhram Chaudhary and his two daughters have recovered from Covid-19.

Himachal has 1,390 active Covid cases at present, while 3,085 patients have recovered.

The recovery rate in the state is 67.9%. So far, more than 1.87 lakh people have been tested in the state for the virus and of them, 4,538 have been found to be positive. The positivity rate in the state is around 2.3%. The case fatality ratio is 0.5% with 21 deaths, so far.
