KARNAL: From the coming Rabi harvesting season, a ‘Parivar Pehchan Patra’ or family ID will be mandatory for farmers to sell their produce to the government on minimum support price (MSP). As per directions issued by the state government, family identification number is a must for registration on the ‘Meri Fasal, Mera Byora’ portal.

However, the government did not specifically give any reason behind this move but officials associated with the Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board (HSAMB) said that the decision was taken to counter fake and multiple registrations of family members of a farmer.

“Earlier, a farmer having agricultural land could get himself registered using aadhaar card but now the ID number will also be mandatory for registration as all members of the same family will not be able to get themselves registered to sell their produce from the same land,” said a senior officer from the HSAMB.

“The step was taken following reports that farmers get themselves registered and ahritiyas and traders use their registration for bogus procurement,” he added. However, farmers have raised objections for making family ID mandatory for selling crop on MSP and termed the move as another diktat of the government. “Most of the families in rural areas have joint land holdings and have created one family ID. The new rule will create problems for farmers for registration and selling of their produce,” said Ratan Mann, state president of BKU (Tikait).

Haryana food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department additional chief secretary, PK Das, said that the move will counter multiple registrations from one family and will make the process of payment easy as the PPP data also has bank account details. On allegations that many farmers do not have family IDS yet, he said, “Around 90% families in Haryana have family IDS so there should not be any problem.”haryana agriculture department deputy director Karam Chand said that all farmers will have to get themselves registered on the MFMB portal by providing their details including the family ID. He said that creation of family IDS is going on and farmers can get the family ID at their nearest common service centres.
