10 fatalities, 788 new infections in Himachal

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh on Sunday recorded 788 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the state’s caseload to 76,375. The toll climbed to 1,177 after 10 patients succumbed to the contagion.

Of the new cases, 171 were reported in Solan, 133 in Kangra, 108 in Mandi, 93 in Sirmaur, 72 in Kullu, 67 in Una, 66 in Hamirpur, 33 in Chamba, 21 in Shimla, 11 each in Bilaspur and Lahaulspit­i and two in Kinnaur.

The active cases climbed to 8,696 while recoveries reached 66,479 after 526 patients recuperate­d.

Shimla is the worst hit district with 12,255 cases followed by Kangra (12,184) and Mandi (11,763), Solan 9,622 infections, Una 5,400, Kullu 5,052, Sirmaur 4,877, Hamirpur 4,638, Bilaspur 3,998, Chamba 3,528, Lahaulspit­i 1,554 and Kinnaur 1, 504.

CM reviews situation in Una

Chief minister (CM) Jai Ram Thakur on Sunday reviewed the Covid-19 and drought situation in Una. With regards to the pandemic, the CM urged the elected representa­tives of Panchayati Raj Institutio­ns and urban local bodies to come forward and motivate people to use face masks, maintain social distancing and also strictly follow the standard operating procedures to stop the spread of infections.

He also asked residents to come forward for testing as this would not only protect them but also stop them from spreading the virus further. He urged the representa­tives of the religious organisati­ons also to motivate people to avoid large gatherings.
