CHANDIGARH : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday asked chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to recognise the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Punjab due to the Covid-19 pandemic and take immediate relief measures.

He urged the CM to provide ₹2 lakh compensation to the kin of Covid victims, monthly pension of ₹6,000 for Covid orphans and cash assistance of ₹6,000 to all poor families for a six-month period.

“It is heart-wrenching that the government has done nothing by way of giving relief to any section of society over the past year despite claiming to have spent ₹1,100 crore on Covid care. I appeal to the chief minister to mitigate the sufferings of various sections of society which have been worst hit by the pandemic,” added the former deputy CM.
