NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH: Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta on Saturday hit out at chief minister Arvind Kejriwal saying he was using Punjab Police to intimidate the saffron party’s leaders.

His charge came after Delhi BJP spokesperson Naveen Kumar Jindal on Saturday tweeted photos of Punjab Police officials waiting outside his house, allegedly to “arrest him”.

Police officials said they had gone to Jindal’s house only to serve a notice to him.

Addressing a press conference, Gupta referred to earlier action against BJP’S Priti Gandhi and Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and said, “What is their crime? They exposed Kejriwal on social media.”

Jindal had posted pictures of a car with Punjab number plates parked outside his house. “I want to tell Kejriwal I am not scared,” Naveen posted.

During the press conference, BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh played a purported video clip of Kejriwal at a press meet saying would not indulge in the politics of mudslinging. “If 4-5 of these people who abuse on social media are arrested, others will get the message,” Kejriwal purportedly said in the video. HT was not able to verify the authenticity of the video.

Accusing Kejriwal of misusing Punjab Police, Singh alleged they were tapping Tajinder Singh’s phones. “He changed his location 4 times, but police reached him,” Singh said.

Talking about the car outside Jindal’s house, Singh said, “Cops came in a private car, not in an official car. Now, they are standing in front of Naveen Kumar’s residence. They will arrest him and take him to Punjab.”

“Instead of arresting the drug mafia, Punjab Police today are keen on getting brownie points. There is a competition among Punjab DSPS that who first get to arrest Naveen or Bagga and get a promotion,” Singh said.

“Our police party had not gone to arrest him (Naveen Kumar Jindal), but to deliver him the notice. It was received by his son,” said a senior Punjab Police officer, who did not wish to be named.

Meanwhile, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Saturday took strong exception to the manner BJP leaders in other states were being booked by the Punjab Police on behalf of AAP chief minister Bhagwant Mann. Chugh said three such cases have been registered so far by the Punjab Police against BJP leaders in Delhi and Maharashtra.
