BAIL PLEA DISMISSED

MOHALI : A local court on Wednesday dismissed bail plea of former Congress minister and now BJP leader, Sunder Sham Arora observing that it was inexplainable how he despite being from “stringent economic circumstances”, amassed huge properties.

The special court of Parminder Singh Grewal observed that during probe it has come on record that Arora abandoned his graduation midway due to stringent economic circumstances and thereafter, started his career from a wool shop at Hoshiarpur. “This court is of the considered view that it is very strange and rather inexplainable that how the petitioner, (who has to abandon his graduation studies midway and who was a small time wool shopkeeper that too at a small city like Hoshiarpur), has amassed the aforesaid huge properties and has mustered the aforesaid huge amount of Rs 50 lakh in cash allegedly paid by him as bribe money to the complainant at the time of his arrest in this case,” the court said referring to probe which said he has 30 acres land at villages Bajwara, Khawaspur and Mehlanwali and is partner of Shivam Hospital, Hoshiarpur to the extent of 50% . The court also referred to a probe report which said he is having another commercial building, wherein KFC food chain is running at present and has been the owner of high-end luxury cars like Mercedes and KIA Carnival. Punjab vigilance bureau had arrested Arora, redhanded from Zirakpur last month and recovered Rs 50 lakh which he allegedly brought to handover it to Manmohan Kumar, Assistant Inspector General, VB, Flying Squad, Punjab as a graft to settle the ongoing cases against him. The bureau averred that the car recovered from Arora is registered in the name of a realtor Deepak Garg.
