An Associated Press report late on Tuesday quoted an unnamed "senior US intelligence official" saying the missile had been fired by Russia (likely unintentionally)
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the missile strike "a true statement brought by Russia for the G20 summit"
Poland is protected by Nato's commitment to collective defence - enshrined in Article 5 of its founding treaty and the initial explosion sparked concerns that alliance, which Poland joined in 1999, might be drawn into the conflict with Russia
Air defence system
The missile that hit Poland appears to have been fired by Ukraine's air defences. Ukraine said it brought down 77 of the more than 90 missiles, fired by Russia on Tuesday. One of the cities to be hit was Lviv, 70kms from the Polish border
