Apex court launches online RTI portal

The Supreme Court on Tuesday unveiled its online Right To Informatio­n (RTI) portal, facilitati­ng the access of informatio­n about the top court, which is a public authority under the transparen­cy law. Till now, RTI applicatio­ns with respect to the Supreme Court could be filed only through post. The portal went live on Tuesday evening, as announced by Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachu­d on November 14 when a case relating to the online RTI portal for high courts and lower judiciary was mentioned before him.

The foreign ministers of India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday reviewed bilateral ties in areas ranging from food security to two-way trade, which is projected to surpass $88 billion in the current fiscal year following the signing of a free trade deal. External affairs minister S Jaishankar and his UAE counterpar­t Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met at Hyderabad House and reviewed relations in different areas, especially trade, investment, food security, energy, defence, space and education. They also exchanged views on the global situation, various regional hotspots and cooperatio­n between the two side at the UN Security Council.

Zorba, India’s first dog to be deployed for tracking down poachers, died in Guwahati due to old age. The 12-year-old male Belgian Malinois was a member of ‘K9’, the nation’s first dog squad for wildlife crimes. Zorba was the first dog of the squad and was credited with helping law enforcemen­t nab over 60 poachers. He was given a warm farewell by wildlife activists and was buried in Guwahati on Tuesday. Zorba retired in 2019 and was honoured for his services with a traditiona­l Assamese ‘gamosa’ and a citation on Independen­ce Day this year.
