NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday approached the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the Election Commission of India, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using children for political campaigns ahead of the assembly elections in Gujarat.

The complaint came a day after the BJP shared a video in which a girl was speaking about the party’s governance in the state in Gujarati, as she stood next to the Prime Minister. “The development of the minds of Gujaratis. BJP will save us; BJP will come again,” she said in the video posted on Twitter.

The Congress’s social media department chairperson Supriya Shrinate tweeted: “We have lodged a complaint before Priyank Kanoongo of NCPCR against misuse of children for election and political campaigns by PM Modi in Gujarat. Have also marked a copy to the EC for violation of the model code of conduct.”
