The Union government on Wednesday said it was dispatching teams to three more states – Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Kerala – that are currently recording a rise in measles infections that come at a time when Mumbai has reported the deaths of 12 children, all of whom were unvaccinated. Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can severely sicken young children, but is normally kept under check due to large-scale vaccination. In the past couple of years, however, the pandemic has led to a drop in this vaccination coverage, officials said.
