UCC implementation is BJP’S promise: Shah
BHOPAL/GUNA: The Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp)-led Centre will implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across the country as it is a guarantee of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday said, as he accused the Congress of political appeasement and advocating religious personal laws.
Addressing a rally in support of BJP candidate and civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Guna Lok Sabha constituency of Madhya Pradesh, Shah alleged the Congress manifesto promises to restore Muslim personal laws if voted to power, but added that the BJP won’t let them succeed.
To be sure, the Congress manifesto says “all laws and rules that interfere unreasonably with personal freedoms will be repealed”. The party also accused the ruling BJP at the Centre of spreading lies over alleged fears of losing the elections.
“Read the Congress manifesto carefully. They have said that they will reintroduce personal law… They want to bring Muslim personal law. They want to bring back triple talaq...can this country be run by Sharia (Islamic law)?” Shah said at the rally held in Ashok Nagar.
Launching an attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, he said: “Rahul baba, do whatever you feel like doing for appeasement. As long as BJP is there, no personal law will be introduced. This country will be run by UCC and the Constitution. This is our Constitution’s spirit. We have implemented UCC in Uttarakhand. It is our promise and Modi ji’s guarantee that UCC will be enforced in the entire country.”
Hitting back, state Congress spokesperson Anand Jat said: “BJP leaders are busy working on a Hindu-muslim narrative. They are scaring people by spreading lies about the Congress manifesto as they are losing ground. They have realised that voters have made up their minds to change the leadership.”
