Schools discuss collaborative learning at annual conference
NEW DELHI: The National Progressive Schools’ Conference held its 41st annual conference on Thursday, bringing together principals from schools across the city and NCR. The theme of the conference was collaborative learning for a diverse milieu.
“We have to continue celebrating diversity -- culturally, socially and by limiting the divide that has come up within society between the privileged and under- privileged. Schools play a vital role in this endeavour,” said NPSC chairperson Ameeta Mulla Wattal.
Former censor board chief Sharmila Tagore was invited as a speaker for the first session - Film and Media- connecting diversities. Tagore laid emphasis on having media literacy as a part of school curriculum.
“Media Literacy will not only protect us from inappropriate media content but also help us become a critical thinker and a proactive citizen. We can no longer be the passive recipient of messages by media. We also need to learn to question the way media forms our opinions,” she said.
During the session, Tagore shared her experience of working in the Indian film industry as an actress and as the chief of the film censor board.
Planning Commission member Sayeda Saiyidain Hameed spoke on creating a gender sensitive society for the second session of the conference.
NPSC is an organization with nearly 138 private schools as its members. The members meet regularly and discuss various concerns and issues of school education and share their views.
The second day of the conference will include panel discussions on vision and values in the changing world of learning, harmony in a conflicting world followed by Sufi Kalam and Stuffed Parrot- a dramatic exploration where a specialist on theatre of conflict will conduct the session.
