SC TO HEAR AAP PLEA AGAINST PREZ RULE ON MONDAY

-

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) plea challenging the Lieutenant Governor’s decision to not dissolve the state Assembly and hold fresh elections along with the Lok Sabha polls.

The move came on a day Parliament gave its formal nod for imposition of President’s Rule in Delhi.

A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam said it would hear the petition on February 24 after AAP’s counsel advocate Prashant Bhushan said, “There is no possibility of formation of any alternative government in Delhi and the Lieutenant Governor should have dissolved the Assembly.”

The AAP had moved the Supreme Court on Thursday against the imposition of President’s rule. The party had alleged President’s rule was imposed in the state to protect Congress leaders and former chief minister Sheila Dikshit from facing corruption charges. HTC
