FOLLOWING MUMBAI’S FOOTSTEPS

NEW DELHI: Slums have existed in Mumbai from the pre Independence era and demolition only resulted in reappearance of slums. A Slum Rehabilitation Authority was set up by the Maharashtra Government, which is implementing in-situ redevelopment projects in Dharavi and Matunga areas. MHADA is constructing 18-storey buildings in Sector 5, Dharavi and the work is slated to be completed by May 2014.
