NEW DELHI: Young graduates interested in politics may soon find an opportunity to intern with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which intends to launch a short internship programme ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The unpaid interns, who will be hired in each state, will manage the party’s social media outreach, while also helping with election activities — including door to door campaigning.

“We are launching this programme with an intention to give youngsters a peek into our party and its ideals and to get their expertise in planning and strategising for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” said Ankit Lal, the party’s social media in charge.

The party had successfully experimented with the idea in the Delhi assembly elections when interns helped the party in profiling each of the assembly seats and also in reaching out to the masses.

For the Lok Sabha elections, the intake of the interns will be much higher than the last internship. “We have not yet fixed the number of interns but soon we will be advertising about it on party’s website,” Lal said.

Like the last internship programme which saw a number of interns from the IIM and IITs, AAP expects a handful of interns from the premier institutes this time as well.

While it is yet undecided as to which state units of the party will run the programme, it is most likely to be focused on interns from Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab.
