To pardon Rajiv Gandhi’s killers is to show disrespect to the victims

-

This is with reference to SC halts release of Rajiv killers, govt takes on Jaya (February

21). The Supreme Court has to make its stand clear on the convicts in the Rajiv

Gandhi assassination case. Why did it commute their death sentence? They have indulged in acts of terror against the State. It is unthinkable to pardon them. If they can be pardoned, why was a similar approach not taken in the case of Afzal Guru and Ajmal Kasab? Is the assassination of a former PM less important than the attack on Parliament or 26/11? All those who sympathise with the convicts should take a moment to think about the innocent people who died on May 21, 1991. Equally disturbing is the way in which political parties in Tamil Nadu have been welcoming J Jayalalithaa’s announcement on plans to free the seven convicts.
