BCCI postpones meeting with coach, captain

MUMBAI: There’s little chance that things will change, let alone improve in Indian cricket. Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India have postponed their planned meeting with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Duncan Fletcher to take stock of the Indian cricket team’s debacle in New Zealand.

The role of the captain and coach has come under fire after India lost both the Test and ODI series in New Zealand.

“It was a routine meeting which we have after every tour, nothing different. We have regular discussions with the captain and coach. However, it has been postponed as Dhoni is recuperating from his injury,” BCCI sec Sanjay Patel told HT. “In all probability that would happen only after the T20 World Cup.”

POOR RESULTS

The Dhoni-Fletcher combination has failed to generate the desired results and the Indian team has hurtled from one overseas defeat to another. Fletcher took over after the 2011 World Cup and his disastrous run started from the tour of England where India were whitewashed 0-4. That was followed by another similar thrashing in a four-match series in Australia.

Fletcher’s overseas record shows 10 defeats in 15 matches and the Zimbabwean’s contract ends in April. It would come as a big surprise if he survives this debacle.
