18-yr-old raped by friends in Delhi

NEW DELHI: A teenaged Assamese girl has alleged that she was raped by two of her male friends on Friday, while being kept confined in a rented accommodation for over two weeks in Mahipalpur area of south Delhi.

Police on Sunday said they had arrested the two accused, identified as Rahul and Haroon — both in their 20s and residents of Tezpur, Assam — after the girl lodged a complaint on Saturday.

“She claimed that the men – whom she has been friends with since well before leaving Tezpur some months ago – confined her at a rented house in Mahipalpur and sexually exploited her,” said a senior police officer.

The police said the rape, according to the victim, had taken place on Friday evening following which she roamed the streets before finally being approached by a police vehicle around 3.30 pm on Saturday afternoon.

“The PCR vehicle took her to the Safdurjung Hospital for a medical examination, where she told senior officials about the sexual abuse. A case was registered at the Vasant Kunj (north) police station after medical tests confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted,” the officer said.

The accused were arrested under the charges of rape and sent to police custody by the Saket district court.

Police said the complainant, a class 10 student, had returned to Delhi on February 9 after a trip to Kerala with Rahul.

Haroon, the police said, had met the couple at the railway station before taking them both to the Mahipalpur residence where she was confined and allegedly subjected to sexual abuse.
