New Delhi civic body to develop acupressure tracks, aroma parks
NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will soon set up garden huts and a fragrance park as part of measures to beautify and enhance greenery in the Capital.
“The area administered by the NDMC is acknowledged as the greenest municipal areas in the country and the council is determined to keep that record,” NDMC chairman Jalaj Shrivastava said. He added that different types of garden huts will be created in various parks at Laxmi Bai Nagar and Sarojini Nagar.
“A fragrance park will also be developed at Laxmi Bai Nagar. A new cactus house will come up at the Lodhi Garden nursery and 10 acupressure paths shall be laid in various parks at Sarojini Nagar, Malcha Marg and Jor Bagh,” Shrivastava said.
Acupressure walks is a tenmeter pebbled walkway complete with a railing for support, especially for senior citizens. It is popular in the far-East for its healing properties. According to Shrivastava, a green house will be constructed at the Circular Road nursery and work is on for a topiary garden at Talkatora Garden.
The central verge and both sides of Shanti Path - which lies in the middle of Delhi’s diplomatic enclave - will be beautified by different horticultural features, the chairman informed.
A provision of `75.52 crore has been set aside for parks and gardens in the budget for the financial year 2014-15.
“We are also setting up 33 ecofriendly gyms in public places in an effort to promote good health among citizens. The sites of these gyms - which can be used for free - will include certain public utility services and will be located in some leading parks of Central Delhi,” Shrivastava said. He also said that the equipment will be eco-friendly and designed for use by people of any age.
