Is there anything that helps boost memory? I seem to be forgetting things easily. Will eating almonds help?

Here are some health tips that you can try to help boost your mind and retentive power:

The best way to boost your memory is through an increased blood circulation. This heightened blood circulation can be achieved by short bouts of exercise in the sunshine (For instance on the spot jogging and stretching exercises).

Have food rich in omega 3 essential fatty acids, like fish, walnuts, flaxseeds, almonds etc. These are considered as ‘focus enhancing foods” and thus will help you.

Keep yourself hydrated: Dehydration can make you feel tired, irritable, slow, or even sick. Take sips of fluids with electrolytes such as jaljeera/nimbu paani/lemonade/buttermilk (chaach), throughout the day

Start your day with a wholesome and healthy breakfast consisting of milk (toned), whole grain cereal (whole wheat bread/stuffed chapatti/wheat flakes) and some nuts.

I feel frequent and severe cramps in my stomach. The doctor, that my parents took me to, claimed that it was nothing but anxiety that led to cramps. Is that possible?

Too much of stress or anxiety along with improper, untimely meals and sedentary lifestyle, in addition to gastric infections can lead to indigestion and cramps.

The following will help you:

Avoid fruit juices. Juices usually are acidic and too much consumption can further lead to gastritis

Have plenty of curd and avoid raw vegetables and fruits which may be contaminated. Cut fruits must also be avoided.

Avoid greasy and spicy foods

Try consuming mineral water or boiled drinking water only

Take less of coffee, caffeine drinks. Plain soda is fine though.

I cannot sleep. I am too stressed. Please help.

You can try the following suggestions. These are known as sleep hygiene measures.

Reduce your caffeine intake (tea/ coffee/ energy drinks etc), especially late in the day

Make sure your room isn’t too hot or too cold.

Exercise regularly.

Try to get into a daily routine to establish a sleep rhythm.

Drink warm milk before going to sleep.
