NEW DELHI: The Congress on Sunday accused Arvind Kejriwal of “betraying” the people of Delhi to achieve his national political ambitions.

Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh said the Aam Aadmi Party government had miserably failed to deliver on its “tall” promises. Singh was speaking at his party’s ‘pol khol abhiyan’ rally at the Central Park.

“The government left the citizens who had voted for them midway. We had said that we would support the Jan Lokpal Bill provided it is brought in through the constitutional channel. Why did they not send the Bill to the L-G at the very beginning? Rahul Gandhi made sure that the Lokpal Bill was passed in Parliament,” Singh said.

The rally saw All India Congress Committee general secretary Shakeel Ahmed, former ministers Haroon Yusuf and Kiran Walia and former MLA, Mukesh Sharma in attendance.

Justifying their decision to support the AAP government in Delhi, Shakeel Ahmad said that they wanted to expose the real intentions of the fledgling party.

“We decided to support AAP as 16% of our voters voted for them. We realised we had lost because of people who lie and make false promises. We wanted to expose the real face of AAP,” said Ahmad. Congress supporters also burnt Kejriwal’s effigy at the rally. Singh also took a dig at BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. “We are already distraught because of one feku and another one has joined his ranks. Kejriwal can make it to the Guinness Book of World Records if there was a category for lying,” he said.
