NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old man hung himself after killing his wife and two daughters – aged six and eight – apparently in a drunken rage on Sunday evening in Dwarka.

The couple’s youngest daughter aged three, was not in the house at the time and is the sole survivor of what used to be a family of five.

The police discovered the body of Ravinder Kanojia, a drycleaner, hanging from a ventilator on the second floor of a small rented house in Vikas Vihar near Dwarka’s sector 15 around 8 am on Monday. An empty bottle of alcohol was also found stashed in a corner.

Kanojia’s wife Chanda, 31 and daughters Yashika, 6, and Nandini, 8, were found with their heads smashed on a bed in a room below. Here, police said they found an iron pipe which was probably used by Kanoia to kill the three.

“We have registered a case of murder and are investigating the case to ascertain the precise series of events leading up to the incident,” said Suman Goel, deputy commissioner of police (southwest).

Police quoted neighbours as saying that the couple used to bicker and fight ‘on a usual basis’ and that their marital relationship was, evidently, ‘strained’.

Kanojia’s family had shifted to the said house as the home they were living in, along with Ravinder’s brother in a joint-family set-up, was under renovation.
