LAWYERS PROTEST AMITY SCHOOL FIR, STRIKE WORK
NEW DELHI: Six district courts of Delhi were nearly deserted on Monday, when the District Court Bar Association of Delhi (DCBA) called a day-long strike. The strike hampered work in Saket, Patiala House, Tis Hazari, Dwarka, Karkardooma and Rohini district courts.
The strike was called to protest an FIR, which was filed against a group of advocates regarding their clash with the staff of Amity International School last week.
The strike meant that only proxy counsels appeared for urgent matters on Monday.
Sources said around 100 members of the DSBA planned to go on a hunger strike as well.
Saket Bar Association Vice President Arun Rathi said the FIR was lodged in a wrongful manner and the police should have taken action against the school staff for misbehaving with the lawyers.
Rathi further said the lawyers’ body met the DCP concerned, who assured them that action will be taken against the culprits and a fair probe conducted into the matter.
The school administration filed the case when over 50 lawyers ran amok in Amity School in Saket in south Delhi on February 22 afternoon. The incident happened after one of them allegedly had an altercation with a school van driver who had stopped the lawyer’s bike to help children cross the road.
