NEW DELHI: Hours after PM Narendra Modi launched website mygov.nic.in seeking innovative ideas from people, logging into it became impossible with huge flow of traffic from across the globe.

The website has been launched for people to contribute their ideas to achieve ‘Surajya’ (good governance).

“The platform would bridge the gulf between people and the government. Democracy cannot succeed without people’s participation in the government and this should not be limited only during elections. The participation should be there in fulfilling peoples’ aspirations and needs,” said Modi, inaugurating the website.

The website offers multiple theme-based discussions for people to share their thoughts and ideas. An idea shared by a contributor will also be discussed on these forums. People can upload documents, case studies, pictures, videos, other work plans, etc on the platform.

HT tried to log in to the website after registering but it was not easy. The registration process took about half an hour and after that logging in became a tough due to heavy traffic. “We are facing some teething problems because of huge traffic,” an official of a National Informatics Centre (NIC) said.

The platform aims to derive actionable insights for specific governance challenges and issues and have termed it as “discuss” platform. Further, the platform aims to bring right set of skills and like-minded people to implement the actions defined by the collaborating community, termed as “do” platform. People can suggest and volunteer to do certain tasks once approved. Those who complete the task would earn credit points. People can join from various groups such as clean Ganga, girl child education, clean India, skilled India, digital India, job creation, etc. Each group consists of online and on ground tasks that can be taken up by the contributors/volunteers.

NIC, department of electronics and information technology (DeitY) would implement and manage a platform “MyGov”.

Officials in the department of information technology suggested that this platform may even be extended to act like public audit platform for government projects.
