CBI says Sinha’s wedding attendance a ‘social obligation’

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigat­ion on Saturday said that its chief Ranjit Sinha attended former intelligen­ce bureau special director Rajinder Kumar’s son’s wedding “as part of social obligation in his individual capacity”.

Reacting to an HT story titled ‘CBI chief partied with former IB boss he charged in Ishrat case’ published on July 25, CBI spokespers­on Kanchan Prasad said the report tends to cast aspersion on the profession­al capacity of the functionin­g of CBI as an investigat­ing agency.

“Investigat­ion in the case has already been completed many monthsbefo­rethesaidf­unctiontoo­k place,”theCBIsaid.Thecorresp­ondent responded saying, “I had spoken to the CBI director before doing the story. He said that attending the function was his “private affair” and he will not answer any query in this regard. Sinha’s remark was carried prominentl­y in the story.
