West Bengal is not the worst

This is in response to Ramachandra Guha’s article Carpets red and green, long and small (Past&Present, July 20). Guha has the right to condemn unfortunate incidents in West Bengal but he can’t identify the state as one of the “worst-governed” ones in India. Rather, the hard reality remains that there is no state that can be termed an epitome of good governance. West Bengal is yet to see assaults on Christians, attacks on churches and the beating up of night-club revellers by moral guardians of society! If West Bengal is the “worst-governed” state, why are the people from all over India coming here?
