Gold stamp on Apurvi’s

NEW DELHI: Indian women rocked the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre in Glasgow on Saturday by completing two gold-silver double. Rahi Sarnobat and Anisa Sayyed won gold and silver respective­ly in the women’s 25m pistol in the evening after Apurvi Chandela and Ayonika Paul had made it a double in the 10m air rifle.

Abhinav Bindra had won India their first gold at the Glasgow Games shooting events on Friday. A day later, it was Chandela who idolises India’s only individual Olympic gold medal winner.

In the autumn of 2012, Chandela’s parents had decided to invest in shooting by setting up 10m range for their daughter at their home in Jaipur. The idea was to make use of modern facilities in the build-up to the 56th National Shooting Championsh­ips which was nearly three months away.

The investment paid rich dividends as the 19-year-old went on to dominate the women’s 10m air rifle event on her debut.
