Dhoni blames ICC...

-

Narrating the incident between Jadeja and Anderson, a seething Dhoni said, “The umpires called for lunch and we (Dhoni and Jadeja) started walking. The other individual (Anderson) started using foul language against Jadeja and I had to step in the middle. By the time we reached the ropes, I thought the thing had diffused.”

“However, by the time we were going through the members’ area and Jadeja was a couple of yards behind me, something was said to him. He turned across to the individual, and was pushed. He could barely maintain his balance and turned to see what was happening. On that basis, he was fined.

“People said it was against the spirit of the game. But if someone is saying something to you from behind and you just turn around, it is not being aggressive. The bat was under his (Jadeja’s) armpit throughout and till he entered the dressing room, he didn’t speak a word. A lot of things were neglected,” said Dhoni.

The initial charge against Jadeja was under level 2, which could have even got him a one-Test ban. “The allegation is of Level 2 and he gets punished under Level 1. The beauty of Level 1 is you cannot appeal against it. But BCCI and the legal experts are working things out. We are definitely not at all happy with the verdict,” Dhoni fumed, warning that the ruling had set a bad precedent as the next time a player on the receiving end will feel he is better off retaliating.
