KOHLI CAN’T BE CRITICISED JUST YET
KOLKATA: Virat Kohli should not be judged on the basis of his failures in England as he is “too good a player” and there is no reason for the young batsman to tinker with his batting technique, former batting great Gundappa Viswanath said on Saturday. Kohli, who scored a century in the last two overseas Test tours to South Africa and New Zealand, is yet to click in the current series.
“Getting runs equals getting back to form, people and the media will say a lot of things, but I feel technically he is okay. He can’t change his technique now. A few adjustments are acceptable. If he gets runs, it’s good for Indian cricket,” said Viswanath.
Pitches have been under intense focus, but Viswanath felt too much is being made out of the wicket. “I never used to bother about pitches. If you think too much about pitches, 20% of the batting is lost. We didn’t have the luxury of observing batsmen on videos then. All I did was spend 5-10 minutes visualising myself against their bowlers on the night before the Test.
