AAP can have fixed protest site, says Naidu
NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leaders continued to target Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Friday with urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu saying that they can earmark a designated place for ‘dharnas’ in Delhi. He said this will help the AAP continue with their dharna politics.
“Some people say that they will continue protests even after coming to power. My wishes are with them and we can earmark some place also for that particular purpose. What Delhi requires is development, speedy and integrated development,” said Naidu.
It was Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of state for commerce and industry, who asked five questions from Kejriwal. The BJP on Thursday had declared that senior party leaders would ask five questions daily from AAP leaders to expose their ‘lies’.
“We are raising these questions. Some people may say they are old ones but it does not matter. They say why five ask 50 questions but why 50 we will ask many more as and when there are issues coming up,” she said.
Naidu also talked about the ‘Unclog Delhi’ campaign of Hindustan Times and said that after the series was run by the paper, he had formed a committee and the government is working towards reducing congestion in Delhi.
“There is so much congestion in Delhi and present infrastructure is not at all sufficient. We can assure you that congestion will be reduced in Delhi,” Naidu added.
“I have set up a high-powered committee to suggest solutions to this problem. The committee has suggested an action plan with an investment of `23,000 crore for constructing elevated roads, by-passes, bridges, tunnels, under passes, link roads. This plan has been placed in public domain for suggestions from public,” he said.
Naidu, however, ducked questions on full statehood. “Once the government takes a view it will be told to you. Once the vision document will come, it will be communicated to you,” he said.
“The Modi government will ensure planned development. In addition, we have made all efforts for clean, healthy and safe housing to the people of unauthorised colonies, jhuggi clusters and rehabilitation colonies,” he added.
