Facing trial in UK, Alstom bags DMRC contract worth `177 crore

LONDON: Even as a British court fixed a date for the trail of Alstom officials for allegedly bribing Delhi Metro Rail Corporation officials during its Phase I, the company has been awarded a contract worth 25 million Euros (approximately `177 crore) to provide track work on a new line on the network by the end of 2016.

The Southwark Crown Court has set May 23, 2016 as the date for the trial of two of its former officials for allegedly bribing DMRC officials between 2000 and 2006.

The charges against the company have been brought by Britain’s Serious Fraud Office.

Alstom said Friday that the new 59km long line that includes 38 stations as part of DMRC’s Phase III project will extend the network from six to eight lines.

Alstom said it was in charge of the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 30km of concrete and track ballast.

The concrete track is for the elevated and underground sections from Lajpat Nagar to Shiv Vihar stations, while the track ballast is for the depot.
