THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE AT AROUND 9PM NEAR THE SIGNATURE BRIDGE AFTER AN ARGUMENT BROKE OUT BETWEEN THE TWO MEN

NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old man working as a translator was stabbed to death by his colleague on Friday after a scuffle in north Delhi’s Timarpur. The accused later committed suicide by slitting his throat.

Police officials claim that the victim, Lobsang, and the accused, Tenzing, 46, were acquaintances and had recently arrived in Delhi.

The incident took place at approximately 9 pm near the Signature Bridge after an argument broke out between the two men.

“Soon Tenzing pulled out a knife and stabbed Lobsang multiple times,” said a police official.

According to eyewitnesseses, while a local security guard alerted the police, Tenzing sat near the injured Lobsang, before finally committing suicide.

“He sat there while the victim bled. Tenzing then used the same knife to slit his throat,” said a police official.

Police said the true cause of the argument and murder was still unknown, robbery has been ruled out.

“We recovered approximately `1 lakh from the spot from the two Tibetan nationals, which was left untouched, ruling out money as a motive,” said a police official.

Police officials said while Tenzing succumbed to injuries on the spot, Lobsang was rushed to a hospital.

“Our PCRs rushed Lobsang to the hospital. He, however, he was declared brought dead,” said a police official.

Police registered a case of murder at the Timarpur police station and were further investigating the case. Senior police officials claim that the duo had arrived in Delhi on February 11 and used to translate religious text from English to Tibetan manuscripts.

“Both men were translators and were slated to leave for Dharmshala soon to procure medicinal drugs,” said DCP (north) Madhur Verma Tenzing hailed from Dharmshala and Lobasang was based in Karnataka.

Taking precautionary measures, senior police officials met Tibetan representatives and the Resident Welfare Association in Majnu Ka Tilla area to ensure full cooperation and investigate the case further.
